Approximately 55,000 homes have reportedly been affected by the rains, with their belongings and shelters damaged.

Heavy rains over the last seven days have intensified the already dire situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the territory, as reported by humanitarian agencies.

"Awful" Conditions Brings Grave Threats

A spokesman described the recent storm as "horrendous", with rain so severe that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.

"These conditions was truly horrendous for the people. The downpours were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," stated the spokesperson.

Officials express extreme anxiety that children residing in makeshift shelters in soaked clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and other sicknesses.

Fatalities and Extensive Damage

Health authorities have reported that one baby has died from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in structural failures due to the storms.

Further statements indicate a increased number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that numerous homes had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.

  • Almost 55,000 families affected by the weather.
  • More than 40 official refuges inundated.
  • Numerous individuals required to find new shelter.

Assistance Operations Seen as Not Enough

Groups have escalated distribution of tents, warm covers and clothes after the truce began, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"Officials are working relentlessly to provide that relief and to allocate it, but the scale of the needs is so vast that we still have a great number of families and children who are genuinely struggling each evening," warned one representative.

Future Challenges and Ceasefire Terms

The second phase of the ceasefire includes proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other provisions.

Relief bodies have stressed the imperative for "increased and sustained relief to meet pressing and ongoing needs."

The hostilities was triggered by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent actions have resulted in a significant number of fatalities in the area, based on health ministry data.
