President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.

He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Details on the Tragic Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Offer

The president said he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Support

Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit his relatives.

Impact of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
