Spurs Boss Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight home defeat of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' next goal when the keeper lost possession well beyond his area.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.

However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.

One of those jeering sessions really irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane stated about the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Alright jeering following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

He said following the match that he had to take the feedback.

"That goal was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "We can't be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to remain more calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the campaign – after Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

Although the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.

The match was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and champions the Reds to play prior to the end of the year.

Only one of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and with luck something we can utilize to learn."

Spurs have lost 4 straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge team with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
