He grins as he turns the recording device on himself and his associate militiamen, their Rapid Support Forces badges on display: "They will all be killed like this."

These individuals are exulting in a mass killing that humanitarian officials fear resulted in the deaths of over 2,000 people in the Sudan's metropolis of el-Fasher during October.

A City Cut Off from the Outside

After maintaining the community under encirclement for nearly two years, from the summer the militia advanced to consolidate its dominance and blockade the leftover inhabitants.
