Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
