Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
